About the Role

The Safety Manager will provide leadership and guidance to the team, working alongside them to create and maintain a culture committed to an illness and injury-free workplace for vendors, clients, and employees. This position reports directly to the HR Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and recommend work safety standards, policies, and procedures, advising management on problem correction to reduce safety risks and occupational health issues.
  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws, or reporting requirements.
  • Provide EHS training to new hires and review training with employees following incidents.
  • Intervene in at-risk activities.
  • Perform pre-hire orientations to promote safety culture and awareness.
  • Conduct drug screening for all new hires and current employees.
  • Retain and manage all documentation related to new employment safety training.
  • Conduct routine employee safety meetings to promote safety culture.
  • Perform site-specific training for employees at job site locations.
  • Provide internal training for new or current staff and safety team members.
  • Review and implement Cal/OSHA regulatory requirements for compliance with confined space, machine guarding, hazard recognition, hazard communication, equipment commissioning, lock out tag out, respiratory protection, blood-borne pathogens, and personal protective equipment.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace; conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
  • Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
  • Develop and implement Haz-mat procedures and policies.
  • Help develop controls for identified hazards and coordinate their implementation from Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) results.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard control systems, policies, and procedures; recommend improvements to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a monthly walkthrough program to identify and correct safety hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and manage programs, documentation, and SOPs for:
    • Guardhouse/entrance management (24/7)
    • Truck Scale management
    • Roaming guard patrol
    • Fleet management/DOT
    • Employee gate management/employee transport
    • Visitor check-in process with GMP implementation
    • Truck wash station and proper operation (efficacy managed by QA/QC)
  • Regularly perform Job Site Safety Analysis (JSA) across all departments.
  • Prevent and take precautions against exposure to hazardous substances and risks from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation, and manual handling hazards.
  • Immediately assess and address situations where an employee’s safety has been compromised, such as accidents, injuries, illnesses, or near misses.
  • Respond, analyze, and investigate all incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Initiate, retain, and manage all Incident/Accident Reporting files.
  • Communicate with medical facilities to manage incidents.
  • Communicate daily with the management team and HR Manager regarding safety-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with department leadership, vendors, and employees.
  • Manage Cal/OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and employee training requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and timely filing of required reports and company data to external agencies, including OSHA 300A logs, Cal/OSHA, and BLS Injury and Illness Annual Report.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, protective clothing, and equipment (PPE).
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
  • PC proficiency and experience with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of principles for providing customer and personal services.
  • Familiarity with business, management, and leadership techniques.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized college, technical school, or university with a B.S./B.A. in Safety, Occupational Health, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Cal/OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training.
  • Three years of prior supervisory experience in production areas.
  • Prior experience in safety training.
  • Experience in implementing Cal/OSHA training programs.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid California driver’s license in alignment with insurance requirements.
