About the role

The Safety Manager will develop site-specific safety programs and oversee daily safety activities in the Greater Chicago Area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site-specific safety programs.
  • Direct and oversee day-to-day safety activities.
  • Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new employee, record participation, and issue identification.
  • Attend initial meetings with project staff and subcontractor representatives to define roles within the project safety program.
  • Conduct regular (weekly) safety meetings with project staff and maintain logs of toolbox safety meetings.
  • Review subcontractors' safety programs to ensure they meet or exceed project requirements.
  • Perform regular (daily) jobsite and work area inspections, including formal weekly inspections with a safety checklist.
  • Record, notify, and prepare written reports of violations or unsafe practices, ensuring immediate corrective actions.
  • Stop any violation or unsafe practice immediately.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing safety procedures, including evacuation and fire control.
  • Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports.
  • Establish and maintain all required job safety records.
  • Conduct monthly overview safety meetings.
  • Assist the Claims Manager in managing claims.
  • Attend project staff meetings to brief on safety issues and stay informed on project progress.

Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on highway and roadway.
  • Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Ability to identify known/potential exposures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication.

Qualifications

  • 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree is highly preferable.
  • CHST or CSP designation is highly desirable.

Pay

Minimum Salary: USD $120,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary: USD $140,000.00/Yr.

Work Environment

The role requires the ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
