About the Role

The Safety Manager is responsible for the District’s Safety Program, including the development and implementation of Illinois OSHA-required programs and District policies that align with its Risk Pool initiatives. This role implements programs to enhance the safety culture, develops and audits safety policies, and conducts safety-focused job task analysis throughout the District.

Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing facility and equipment inspection programs, analyzing potential loss situations, and making recommendations for change. The Safety Manager conducts safety-related inspections, oversees the Hearing Conservation Program (including annual sound level testing and audiograms), and maintains the District’s Emergency Response Plan and Business Resumption Plan. This role also administers the Annual Hazardous Chemical Review process, the Respirator Program, and serves as the District’s AED Plan coordinator.

Supervisory duties include evaluation, training, and recruitment of assigned staff. The position requires physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as driving a motorized vehicle to travel between locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Park and Recreation Administration, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Five years’ experience in the administration of risk management programs in a non-manufacturing, grounds maintenance, parks and recreation, or natural resource-focused industry, including identifying and measuring risk exposures, developing methods for controlling risks, and preventing losses.
  • Two years’ supervisory experience.
  • Specialized training in the management of safety-related programs, such as Principles of Occupational Safety and Health or Certified Safety Professional designation.
  • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate and decide alternative courses of action in relation to risk management situations.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
