About the role
The Safety Manager at HELIX Environmental Planning is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the company’s safety program. They are expected to develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures, create and deliver training programs, conduct safety inspections, and ensure compliance with OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of HELIX’s Safety Program.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures.
- Create and deliver corporate and field safety training programs.
- Conduct new-hire safety orientations.
- Perform regular field audits, safety inspections, and jobsite observations.
- Lead safety committee meetings and track corrective actions.
- Assist with project-specific safety plans, JHAs, and work plans.
- Support proposal and contract teams by completing safety questionnaires and documentation.
- Manage safety records, reporting, KPIs, and program effectiveness metrics.
- Maintain third-party safety platforms such as ISNetworld and Avetta.
- Oversee workers' compensation claims, investigations, and injury prevention efforts.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations.
- Provide safety updates and recommendations to company leadership.
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of health and safety experience in construction, engineering, environmental consulting, or a related industry.
- Minimum 1+ year of professional safety experience in California with working knowledge of Cal/OSHA requirements.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience writing safety policies and procedures.
- Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to regularly travel throughout Southern California and occasionally Northern California.
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or related field preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish language skills preferred.
- Workers' compensation claims management experience preferred.
- ISNetworld administration experience preferred.
- First Aid/CPR Instructor certification preferred.
Benefits
The salary for this position is based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. The expected starting pay range is $110,000 to $150,000 annually.
