About the role

As a Safety Manager at Elior North America, you will develop and execute safety policies and procedures in line with industry best practices, current regulatory requirements, and direction from the Safety Director. A major function of this role is to integrate safety into the organization’s culture, produce safe environments for employees, clients, and customers, and manage key performance indicators to drive strong business results.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and enforce company policies to establish a positive safety culture.
  • Learn, understand, and implement workplace safety protocols with a desire to grow in food safety.
  • Develop and execute safety processes, procedures, and plans according to current industry best practices and regulations.
  • Create and conduct relevant safety training and presentations for positive safety culture matters.
  • Collaborate with segment leaders to deliver safety excellence.
  • Support internal crisis management procedures.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes and support the Elior Risk Team.
  • Investigate and coordinate appropriate responses to OSHA and food safety investigations and citations.
  • Develop and recommend solutions to improve safety opportunities or implement new prevention measures.
  • Support the delivery of and report on safety awareness, near misses, safety issues, and related metrics.
  • Attend client and operational meetings to support the effective implementation of work-based safety solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with various support functions to ensure effective safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing team to identify suppliers of safety equipment.
  • Contribute to RFPs and attend sales meetings as required.
  • Attend operational meetings and facilitate outcomes on behalf of Safety and Compliance.
  • Work with an outsourced audit partner to ensure effective site visits, risk assessments, and audits.
  • Contribute to and shape the annual Safety strategy, providing clear direction for the team.
  • Support the Elior Safety Director and fellow Safety team members, contributing to management reports.
  • Maintain working relationships with Operations Leaders, attending meetings as required.
  • Work effectively to ensure consistency in safety performance within the Safety team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Maximize the use of available resources from insurance providers and partners.
  • Attend team conference calls, meetings, and events.
  • Support the mobilization of new contracts in aligned segments.
  • Support external safety accreditation processes.
  • Facilitate safety coaching and mentoring as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Subject matter expertise and knowledge in OSHA regulations, behavioral-based safety, and facilities safety.
  • Previous experience in a similar safety management role, with an in-depth understanding of the catering industry and a desire to explore food safety.
  • Multi-site experience with the capability to fulfill role expectations within budget constraints.
  • Hold a qualification in workplace safety and be willing to work toward a food safety qualification.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to solve problems and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional approach in dealing with complex issues, with an eye for detail and appreciation of confidentiality.
  • Understanding of regulations relevant to the company’s business.
  • Focus on delivering outstanding customer service to clients, internal stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • IT literate with a comprehensive understanding of Windows-based programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Able to work on own initiative but retain a strong team-player approach, being flexible in terms of workload and variety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CSP or other applicable BCSP certifications.
