About the role
A Safety Manager at CarParts.com is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace health and safety programs. This includes conducting risk assessments, providing employee training, investigating incidents, and fostering a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Promote safety awareness and cultivate distribution center safety culture
- Works cooperatively and harmoniously with distribution center management, supervisors, leads, co-workers, and support departments
- Understand and ensure regulatory compliance with all state and federal regulatory laws and regulations
- Completes assigned safety projects and tasks independently and work well within a team environment
- Conduct safety training (new hire, refresher, job specific, powered industrial truck) sessions for associates and contractors
- Inspect working conditions to ensure all areas and activities are compliant with health and safety guidelines
- Create and manage comprehensive health and safety plans, procedures, and emergency response plans
- Conduct regular hazard identification, risk assessments, and audits of facilities, machinery, and processes
- Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local safety laws (e.g., OSHA) and industry standards
- Develop and deliver safety training, including new hire orientations, to promote a safety-first mindset
- Compile data, track safety KPIs (like incident rates), and submit required reports to management and regulatory agencies
- Champion safety initiatives, motivate employees, and promote a proactive safety culture
- Serve as the point of contact for safety with internal teams (HR, Operations) and external entities (clients, contractors, regulators)
- Coordinate accident investigations, safety review meetings and safety committee meetings as needed
- Suggests revisions to operational process methods and employee activity that does not meet health and safety expectations
- Addresses any workplace-related health and safety issues and accidents
- Collaborate closely with distribution center leadership to monitor compliance and identify health and safety issues
- Daily monitoring reports and impacts in i -warehouse software (site specific)
- Keep work areas safe, organized, and clean according to general warehousing/office practices and OSHA requirements daily
- Conduct health and safety audits on operational compliance with safety policies and procedures
- Participate in post-injury and incident investigations and evaluations
- Inspect lift safety equipment such as fire exits, emergency lights, fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, emergency eye washes, and other safety equipment
- Coordinate safety training for associates with Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), classroom, and floor practical certifications
- Perform security functions, such as monitor associates when entering the building, issue badges and other security functions as needed
- Lead and drive participation on the DC safety committee on all shifts
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Prior Environmental, Health and Safety Experience in distribution center environments
- Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency response protocols
- Exhibits strong organizational skills
- Possess solid problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Excellent attendance and willingness to be part of a team - performing whatever duties are necessary
- MS Office Proficient: Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel (Intermediate to Advanced)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary
- Ability to multitask and possess research skills
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to work under pressure, and be a fast learner
- Flexibility to work and support DC shift schedules as required
- Independent worker with ability to manage own workload with minimal supervision or direction
- Ability to always maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Experience: Prior safety and warehouse experience to include ability to operate powered industrial trucks required
- Experience with Safety Management Systems such as KPA/Novara Flex preferred
- Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software: Warehouse management system terminal, calculator, fax machine, copier, and telephone
- Microsoft office with intermediate Excel focus
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 Hour or 30 Hour Certifications
- Bachelors / associate degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
