Responsibilities
- Provides and conducts safety training (i.e., forklift operation, aerial lift, flagging, and rigging etc.) on an as-requested basis, both in the field and the corporate office, including practical demonstrations and competency verification
- Serves as lead instructor for monthly, off-season OSHA 10-Hour Training
- Learns and assists the safety portion of Field Leadership Orientation
- Receives direction on off-season training needs through the Training Manager
- Takes direction on identified trends of safety deficiencies to close training gaps through the development of modules for the Company’s Learning Management System (LMS)
- Identifies contributing factors in identified skill gaps by working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) at the company.
- Uses “Lessons Learned” incident reviews as content to develop dynamic, tactile training opportunities
- Captures and coordinates between Safety and Training staffs to ensure consistent messaging
- Delivers field-based instruction and coaching on the proper use of equipment, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance, adapting approach based on individual or crew needs
- Coordinates respiratory protection needs, including facilitating online medical evaluations, scheduling and conducting fit testing, and assisting with respirator selection and purchase
- Attends internal and external meetings as directed
- Edits employees on the use of company safety forms and software systems as needed
Qualifications
- Five (5)-seven (7) years of experience in the construction industry required
- Heavy civil construction experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a Substance Use Prevention and Recovery Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana)
- Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire
- Maintains an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that meets the Company’s eligibility
- Must maintain certifications: OSHA 510 and OSHA 500 required, Train-the-Trainer certification for aerial lift, forklift, scissors lift, etc.
