Duties

A Safety Engineer, Pressure Vessels inspects steam and other boilers, unfired pressure vessels, and appurtenances for conformance to State laws and City ordinances regulating their design, fabrication, installation and operation.

Requirement(s)/Minimum Qualification(s)

  • A valid Certificate of Competency to inspect boiler and pressure vessels issued by the State of California; or
  • A valid National Board Commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

  • Applicants filing under Requirement #2 must submit a valid National Board Commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, or proof of having passed the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors examination if they have not yet received their Commission, at the time of filing. The document must be attached to the on-line application BEFORE the application is submitted.

Selection Process

The examination will consist entirely of an application review by Personnel Department staff to ensure that applicants meet the minimum requirements for the job. The examination will be given both on an interdepartmental promotional and an open competitive basis.
