Safety Battalion Chief

About the role

This position is built for a chief officer who understands that safety work is fire service work: that line safety, post-incident analysis, near-miss reporting, and safety culture are what keep firefighters going home at the end of every shift. This role is ideal for a chief officer who can balance operational safety expertise with people leadership and program development.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of unit-wide safety operations
• Support of line safety on incidents
• Coordination of safety officer assignments during major events
• Leadership of post-incident and near-miss analysis
• Review of injuries and accidents
• Shaping of the safety culture that battalion chiefs, captains, and firefighters carry into every shift

Requirements

• Medical clearance
• Annual fit testing for respiratory protection equipment including SCBA
• A valid driver's license

Qualifications

• Experience in line safety
• Experience running near-miss reviews
• Understanding of the importance of a strong safety program
• Command-level experience in a similar role
