About the role
This position is built for a chief officer who understands that safety work is fire service work: that line safety, post-incident analysis, near-miss reporting, and safety culture are what keep firefighters going home at the end of every shift. This role is ideal for a chief officer who can balance operational safety expertise with people leadership and program development.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of unit-wide safety operations
- Support of line safety on incidents
- Coordination of safety officer assignments during major events
- Leadership of post-incident and near-miss analysis
- Review of injuries and accidents
- Shaping of the safety culture that battalion chiefs, captains, and firefighters carry into every shift
Requirements
- Medical clearance
- Annual fit testing for respiratory protection equipment including SCBA
- A valid driver's license
Qualifications
- Experience in line safety
- Experience running near-miss reviews
- Understanding of the importance of a strong safety program
- Command-level experience in a similar role
