About the role

The Safety & Security Officer supports workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and physical security across Unusual Machines' manufacturing facilities. This role focuses on creating a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, contractors, facilities, and company assets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company safety and security policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and safety and security inspections to identify hazards, risks, and areas requiring corrective action.

  • Cook up emergency preparedness and response programs, including evacuation procedures, fire prevention, severe weather, emergency drills, and other response protocols.

  • Regularly inspect and maintain first aid kits, AEDs, and other emergency and safety equipment to ensure they are operational, accessible, properly stocked, and up to date.

  • Establish and maintain a network of First Aid Captains across facilities and shifts and coordinate CPR, First Aid, and AED training and certifications.

  • Develop and deliver safety orientations and employee training covering PPE, emergency procedures, workplace safety, and security protocols.

  • Partner with HR, Facilities, and Production to investigate workplace incidents and accidents, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain appropriate records related to safety inspections, incidents, training, certifications, emergency drills, and corrective actions.

  • Monitor CCTV cameras and review or extract video when required for authorized security or incident investigations.

  • Follow established protocols for security breaches and emergency situations and coordinate with police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services as needed.

  • Aid in the de-escalation of tense or potentially volatile situations and help ensure the safety of employees and others.

  • Support compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, safe working procedures, and company SOPs.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in workplace safety, physical security, security operations, law enforcement, military service, or a related field.

  • Manufacturing, production, warehouse, or industrial experience strongly preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices, OSHA standards, emergency response, physical security, access control, and surveillance systems.

  • Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, security assessments, or risk assessments.

  • Ability to effectively train employees on workplace safety and emergency procedures.

  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred or ability to obtain after hire.

  • Instructor certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly walk throughout manufacturing facilities and perform routine safety and security inspections.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, and kneel as needed.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE.

  • Flexibility to occasionally support safety training, emergency drills, or incidents across multiple shifts.
