About the role

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) oversees building and maintaining the nation’s 5th largest interstate system and the 3rd largest number of bridges, providing safe and efficient roadways. This position operates a state vehicle to inspect ODOT work facilities, jobsites, and equipment, ensuring compliance with OSHA and PERRP regulations, conducting safety investigations, and promoting a culture of safety.

Responsibilities

• Operates state vehicle to travel to and inspect ODOT work facilities, jobsites, and equipment under direct supervision to ensure compliance with Federal OSHA and PERRP regulations.
• Completes Job Safety Analysis/Job Hazard Analysis (JSA/JHA) identifying hazards, establishes corrective actions, and conducts follow‑up inspections.
• Reviews storage of hazardous waste materials and/or chemicals.
• Performs required monthly inspections of facilities and worksites (bridges, roadways, buildings, work zones) and observes workers for use of prescribed safety apparel (glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators).
• Addresses unsafe worksite behavior and imminently dangerous situations.
• Reviews safety regulations with employees and supervisors.
• Inspects equipment and machinery for properly installed safety devices, guards, and preventative maintenance logs.
