About the role
As a Safety and Crashworthiness Performance Engineer, you will play a critical role in evaluating and advancing the safety performance of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing a wide range of safety and crashworthiness tests, providing the data and insights necessary to support official vehicle certification and ensure exceptional occupant protection.
Responsibilities
- Support official and development tests
- Testing, test data analysis; provide design suggestions for implementation
- Multi-protocol knowledge (US and Latin America)
- Conduct and support research test
- Type : Full vehicle, system, sled, and component level evaluations
- Pre-test : Develop test plan/set-up, attend, and conduct test
- Post-test : Test data analysis, teardowns/inspection, and reporting
- Research on future requirements of IIHS, US-NCAP, Latin NCAP etc.
- Attend safety related conferences
- Technical data review
- Test data analysis / database analysis
- Collect future req. from agencies and develop roadmap for future vehicle development
- Supported by HATCI or HQ staff
- University interface in developing research projects in support of future designs
- Work closely with sales teams of Hyundai/Kia and Genesis for future product strategy
- Collaborate with related teams to develop designs / design changes to meet Safety and Crashworthiness targets
- Create technical reports per HATCI guidelines and present to all collaborating teams as needed
- Other activities as required
- Travel up to 30% of the time domestically and internationally
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical, Biomedical engineering or related engineering field
- Experience: 3 years’ experience in automotive industry
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge in automotive structure, crashworthiness, and safety
- Strong knowledge of IIHS, US-NCAP, Latin NCAP, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)
- Expertise in testing, test equipment, and test processes necessary to meet vehicle requirements
- Expertise in analysis of crash test data. (structural and Occupant)
- Experience using test data analysis tools is ideal (DIAdem, Hyperworks, Excel etc)
- Knowledge of simulation (structure and occupant) to provide direction to simulation team
- Knowledge of Automotive Industry engineering and manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate integrity, and ethical behavior
