Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum $56,600 – Midpoint $73,600 (Salaried E9)
Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
About the Role
The SafeState Environmental Health and Safety Consultant I provides independent, routine industrial hygiene consultation and occupational safety consulting services, including onsite visits to businesses and industries in Alabama. Works primarily in the SafeState OSHA Consultation area to deliver onsite consultation with an industrial hygiene emphasis, document activities, identify OSHA hazards, and assist in developing controls. Collaborates with SafeState Environmental Programs on inspections, assessments, and other environmental, health, and safety surveys. Requires regular overnight travel to consultation sites, including out-of-state travel.
Responsibilities
- Perform onsite industrial hygiene and occupational safety consultations for businesses and industries throughout Alabama in accordance with OSHA guidelines and University policy.
- Document consultation activities and findings.
- Identify OSHA hazards and assist in developing control measures.
- Support SafeState Environmental Programs with inspections, assessments, and related field work.
- Travel overnight to consultation sites at least three days per week, including out-of-state locations, using a personal vehicle.
- Undergo periodic medical exams as required by OSHA regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of occupational safety experience; OR
- Associate’s degree and four (4) years of occupational safety experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety science, business, management, public health, or physical sciences and two (2) years of occupational safety experience; OR
- Master’s degree or higher in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and some occupational safety experience.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report compliant with University policies (applicants under 21 will have driving restrictions).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety and health regulations, especially as related to the OSHA 21(d) Consultation Program.
