Sacristan - St. Camillus Catholic Church - Silver Spring Maryland

Duties / Responsibilities

• Ensures the facility is open one hour before any services.
• Ensures all liturgical vessels, hosts, wine, altar linens and printed materials are in place.
• Ensures church lights and sound system are active in advance of any services.
• Coordinates with the officiating priest to ensure necessary items for masses, baptisms, funerals, weddings, and other special events are in place.
• Puts in place lectionary and sacramentary materials.
• Ensures the correct chasuble and stole are clean and ready for the celebrant.
• Puts in place song sheets, bulletins, and related paper materials.
• Purifies and cleans the vessel used after the mass or service.
• Returns all other materials to their respective storage locations with the help of volunteers.
• Cleans and presses church linens with volunteers; completes this task in the absence of volunteers.
• Cleans candle stands, holy water fonts, and shrines.
• Polishes candle stands and cleans holy water fonts.
• Removes spent flowers and plants from shrines.
• Secures church keys and locks doors and cabinets after events.
• Participates in meetings with church staff and the pastoral team as requested.
• Performs other church-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Excellent knowledge of the Roman Catholic faith.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and knowledge of church processes.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong sense of responsibility and reliability with proven ability to be on-time.
• Ability to work weekends, a couple of hours on weekdays, and some evenings.

Education Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent required.
