Rural Fire Firefighter

Seward County Rural Fire Department is seeking a Firefighter to join our team in Liberal, KS. This role involves protecting lives, property, and the environment through emergency response, fire suppression, rescue operations, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire, medical, rescue, hazardous materials, and other emergency calls
• Suppress structural, wildland, vehicle, and other fires using established firefighting techniques and equipment
• Perform rescue operations, including vehicle extrication, confined spaces, and high-angle rescue
• Inspect, maintain, test, and clean firefighting apparatus, vehicles, equipment, and facilities
• Participate in regular training exercises, drills, and continuing education to maintain certifications and proficiency
• Conduct fire prevention inspections and assist with public education and community outreach programs
• Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records of emergency responses, inspections, and training activities
• Operate fire apparatus and emergency equipment safely when authorized
• Assist with station maintenance, housekeeping, inventory, and equipment readiness
• Enforce and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
• Protect and maintain confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
• Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License (required or attainable within 30 days of hire)
• Firefighter I Training program completion within 1 year of hire (Firefighter II preferred)
• Current CPAT Certification
• Current Fire Team Certification
• Completion of IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 courses within 1 year of hire
• Completion of National Registry EMT course within 2 years of hire
• Ability to pass background check, physical examination, drug & alcohol screening, and physical agility assessment
