About the role

The Radiation Safety Officer I works with all levels of the organization to ensure the delivery of world-class quality services to the region’s clients. This position will work closely with the Regional/Corporate Radiation Safety as well as the Division Manager and Operations Manager to ensure that corporate goals and objectives for the radiation programs are met. The RSO I supports the company’s radiation safety program by assisting with the monitoring, handling, and control of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment under supervision. This role performs radiation surveys, maintains exposure records, and ensures compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements. The RSO I helps train personnel in safe work practices, maintains inventory and calibration records, and supports inspections or audits. This entry-level position focuses on developing foundational knowledge of radiation safety principles, regulatory compliance, and workplace protection standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resources to ensure appropriate safety equipment is used, carry out radiation safety training where required, and conduct radiation safety audits on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance with Radiation Safety and environmental programs.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and IATA regulations at the respective Acuren facility.
  • Audit on-the-job radiation safety performance and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Monitor radiographic operations and the use of all procedures in the specific area of responsibility through audits, inspections, and other oversight techniques.
  • Provide training and guidance in adherence to the radiation safety program in the local office.
  • Conduct hands-on training for 40-hour Radiation Safety for Authorized Radiographers (A/R’s).
  • Manage shipping and handling of sources and source retrieval.
  • Perform quarterly inspection of cranks and guide tubes; cranks to be sent out annually.
  • Calibrate dosimetry and survey meters.
  • Manage RSO duties for one office.
  • May perform radiography in the field as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Level II IRRSP certification required.
  • Current Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification.
  • Familiarity with applicable License(s), the Operating and Emergency Manual (ROEM), NRC and applicable State Regulations, and appropriate sections of 49 CFR Transportation.
  • Four years of full-time experience as a Radiographer.
  • Training in source retrieval and equipment maintenance.
  • Training on establishing and maintaining a Radiation Protection Program.
  • Demonstrated experience as a leader.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Local to Tulsa, OK area or willing to relocate.
