About the role

The Machine Operator reads and follows detailed blueprints and schematics to bend sheets of metal. This position involves lifting metal sheets into machines to shear and bend them into bodies, hose bed covers, and other parts, ensuring each bend meets angle grade and build specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lift metal sheets into machines to shear and bend to make bodies, hose bed covers, and other parts as necessary.
• Read and understand body prints, paper, and CAD.
• Ensure that bends meet angle grade and other specifications of the build.
• Load completed work in opposite order of specifications for the next department in a dedicated cart to be moved.
• Operate plasma machine when needed to ensure the end work meets specifications.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the supervisor to meet company needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferred experience with handling brake press.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Math ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Intermediate computer skills, including spreadsheet formulas, queries, tables, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of basic inspection tools and machining skills.
• Ability to read and work from blueprints or spec books.
• Proficiency with basic hand tools and tape measure.
• Ability to identify quality issues and make adjustments in the production process.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to lift and manipulate large and heavy sheet metal parts and brake press tooling.
• Ability to identify issues with metal sheets to meet customer expectations.
• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally as needed to support department needs.

Physical Demands

• Lifting Requirements: Frequently lift 21-35 lbs and occasionally lift 35-50 lbs.
• Vision Requirements: Continuously required: color vision, close vision, peripheral vision, and long-distance vision.
• Movement Requirements: Continuously required: standing, walking, talking or hearing, feeling, bending/twisting, reaching upward or outward, bending neck side-to-side or front-to-back, pinching/finger manipulation, and grasping/turning the wrist. Occasionally required: climb/balance and kneel/crouch/squat. Rarely required: sitting and typing.

Working Conditions

• Work near moving mechanical parts.
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Outdoor weather conditions and extreme heat (weather-related, especially during summer months).
• Moderate to loud noise levels typical of metal manufacturing environments.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required continuously: safety boots, safety glasses, and cut-resistant gloves. Occasionally required: respirator and face shield.

Pay

$22/hr. or more, depending on experience.
