About the role
Route Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of a group of drivers to ensure safe services to customers. You will assist management with hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluating, monitoring, and counseling of direct reports with an emphasis on safety, customer service, and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily activities and performance of route drivers
- Train, coach, and direct employees to improve their overall performance
- Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded
- Run routes as necessary (absences, vacations, vehicle breakdowns)
- Monitor and track employee attendance and all other required documentation relating to performance management
- Perform and monitor driver observations and vehicle inspections
- Plan, distribute, monitor, and follow-up on daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards and agreements
- Conduct investigations for accidents, injuries, and property damage claims
- Fill in during the absence of other supervisors, office employees, or drivers
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Supervisory Responsibility
- Manage 6-20 employees
- This position will not oversee and direct other managers
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lead and develop a team
- Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications
- Proven customer service skills
- Knowledge of the area with the ability to read maps
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and resolve problems
- Knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations
- Ability to drive a truck with manual transmission (a plus)
- Previous management experience (preferred)
- Previous waste industry experience (a plus)
- 2+ years of truck driving experience (a plus)
- At least a valid Class B CDL
- Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
- At least 19 years of age
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
- No DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling a maximum of 50 lbs
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling a maximum of 100 lbs
- Frequently working outside in changing temperatures
- Occasionally working in wet or humid conditions
- Occasionally working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
- Frequently stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Frequently climbing and/or balancing
- Frequently sitting, standing, or walking
Additional Working Conditions
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Ability to travel between offices, as required
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
