About the Role
Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager or Location Manager, the Route Driver is responsible for driving and operating a delivery van and straight truck (box truck) to transport cargo between customer locations. Route Drivers are essential to our operations, serving as the face of the company by providing exceptional customer service and building strong customer relationships. When not making deliveries, drivers assist with various warehouse duties.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally
- Drive products to various customer locations
- Load and unload trucks according to established procedures
- Review and optimize delivery routes for efficiency and timely delivery
- Manage daily shipping manifests
- Perform warehouse duties and operate equipment, including forklifts and hand trucks
- Maintain the delivery vehicle in excellent condition (clean, well-maintained, and inspected for mechanical issues)
- Follow safe work habits and established safety procedures
- Safely operate additional warehouse equipment
- Attend meetings and training sessions
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License with appropriate state licensing and a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a DOT Medical Exam and obtain a 1-Year Card (paid for by The Kendall Group)
- Ability to use standard office equipment (e.g., computerized bar code scanner, printer) and warehouse equipment/tools/machines/vehicles
- Basic math and reasoning skills
- Excellent work ethic, verbal, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment under supervision
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, driving, and getting in and out of a vehicle
- Ability to see, sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear for extended periods
- Ability to lift, move, or carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to sit for 8 hours a day
- Ability to climb stairs, step ladders, bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to temperature conditions prevalent at the time and noise levels consistent with a warehouse/distribution center environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in industrial wholesale distribution or local delivery driving
