About the role

As part of the Culinary team, you will interact with patients and work as a member of the food service team on assignments including patient tray line assembly, delivering meals, communicating patient needs, and cleaning. This active role offers the opportunity to engage with everyone within the hospital. Weekends are required as the department is staffed 7 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Visit patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based on dietary orders.
  • Enter or record all daily patient meal selections and preferences for one or more patient units.
  • Demonstrate appropriate judgment with modified diets, food, and menu knowledge when relating to patients; request Diet Tech or Dietitian assistance when needed.
  • Edit patient menus as required.
  • Provide patient meal service, including setting up tray work stations, preparing/portioning assigned foods, and assembling patient trays.
  • Deliver and serve meals while addressing special requests, snacks, and nourishments.
  • Provide excellent customer service on the phone or in person and resolve customer complaints effectively.
  • Maintain food handling and sanitation standards to meet licensing agency requirements.
  • Resolve minor problems with patient menus and trays.
  • Interact with patients, families, food service staff, nursing staff, dietetic technicians, and dietitians.

Requirements

  • Reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • One to two years of related experience in nutrition services.
  • For Banner Staffing Services (BSS) team members, a food handlers' card is required within 30 days of hire (not required for BSS team members in Tucson and Colorado).
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and a friendly customer service attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines for working with cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to learn and work with business computer software and point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required.
  • Demonstrated effective customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge (preferred).
  • Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures (preferred).
  • Additional skills and knowledge in healthcare nutrition services (preferred).
  • Bilingual skills preferred in some assignments.

Schedule

Varied shifts, 5x8-hour shifts per week.
