About the role

The essential function of this position is to perform skilled roofing installation, maintenance, and repair work on District properties. Responsibilities include performing manual labor, maintaining equipment and tools, completing work orders in a timely manner with minimal service disruption, and maintaining accurate work records. The role works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled roofing installation, maintenance, and repair work to support the maintenance of District facilities.
• Inspect and identify roof maintenance and repair needs and safety concerns throughout District facilities; evaluate and make recommendations to supervisor for the most efficient methods of accomplishing projects.
• Inspect roofs after inclement weather to assess damage.
• Read and interpret blueprints and other drawings; assist in estimating and planning project materials, costs, and labor requirements.
• Gather materials for projects; maintain safety and security of stocked materials.
• Install and/or assist in the installation of roofing systems and materials; weatherproof and install flashing around roofed areas as required.
• Remove and properly dispose of old roofing materials as necessary.
• Clean/remove debris from roofs as necessary.
• Assist in supervising the work of helpers, laborers, and/or contractors as assigned.
• Coordinate roofing work with activities of other trades, including carpenters and masons.
• Assist in maintaining assigned trucks and equipment; perform cleaning, preventive maintenance, and simple repair work as required.
• May drive and operate trucks and other vehicles; operate various hand and power tools as necessary to accomplish tasks.
• Perform other maintenance and repair duties as designated by supervisor.
• Perform duties in accordance with all department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.
• Document labor hours and materials used on assigned tasks.
• Attend training and meetings as required to exchange information and to enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of related experience.
• Must be a journeyman Roofer.
• Valid driver’s license.

Degree equivalency: Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience; Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
