Responsibilities
- Properly operate an asphalt rolling machine.
- Start and operate the machine, manipulate levers to guide attachments for optimal compaction.
- Operate and maneuver roller as needed to ensure compaction of materials on the roadway or jobsite using roller patterns and mix designs.
- Complete general maintenance on the machine, including checking oil, greasing, servicing, and making normal operating adjustments.
- Work under varying weather conditions and temperatures.
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to climb off and on equipment.
- Sit and drive approximately 70% of a 10-to-12-hour shift.
- Stand or walk approximately 30% of a 10-to-12-hour shift.
- Quickly and repeatedly adjust controls to coordinate movements of limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down.
- Quickly respond to signals to anticipate changes in speed and direction.
- Judge distances and quickly respond to visual cues.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of roller patterns and DOT requirements for specified mix designs, smoothness, and surface sealing.
- Reliable transportation and acceptable driving record.
- Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as projects demand.
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug test and random tests if selected during employment.
