Rodman / Instrument Survey Operator

About the role

MasTec Civil is currently hiring for a Rodman / Instrument Survey Operator to join our team in Tampa, FL. We are looking for a Survey Technician that will assist the Party Chief in creating surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way and control survey tasks.

Responsibilities

• Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys.
• Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
• Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey.
• Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
• Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes.
• Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
• Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations.
• Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
• Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
• Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.
• Absorb own initiative in seeking additional work, or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignment.
• Continually work to sharpen skills and improve on the understanding of surveying.
• Punctual in work assignments.
• Conduct self in a professional manner in the presence of clients and co-workers.
• Meet project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• At least 1 years of experience working in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities or equivalent in similar craft.
• Education and Work Experience Requirements: At least 1 years of experience working in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities or equivalent in similar craft.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required: Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals.
• Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Must have a developing knowledge of layout and survey work.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
