Rockwall Instructor - The Ward Y in Abingdon

About the role

Plan and instruct classes in rock climbing. Provide participants with pertinent information, efficient service, and instruct all classes within the guidelines of the Association to maintain the quality of the programs. Demonstrate a commitment to Y of Central Maryland core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of job performance.

Responsibilities

• Individually lead a class, respond to safety and emergency situations, motivate and educate members.
• Set up, move, and store class equipment.
• Demonstrate good communication skills and display an engaging personality to relate well to participants.
• Develop effective interpersonal relationships with children, parents, and other adults as required for the program area.

Requirements

• Knowledge of safety rules for the program area.
• Successful completion of the Y of Central Maryland Belay training within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum of one year of rock climbing/belay experience strongly preferred.
• First aid and CPR certification required within 90 days of employment.
• Agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for young people. This includes:

  • Avoiding inappropriate physical or verbal interactions.
  • Adhering to established standards of affection.
  • Prohibiting any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment.
  • Mandatory reporting of suspected mistreatment.
  • Completing training on child abuse prevention and complying with legal reporting requirements.
