Robotics Systems Engineer I, Tech Deployment
About the role
As a Systems Engineer in the Robotics Delivery & Packaging Innovations (RDPI) Technology Deployment team, you will lead large‑scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazon’s fulfillment centers in North America. This field‑engineering position requires strong mechanical, electrical, networking, and software coordination skills, and involves extensive travel (up to 75% of the time) to project sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for the installation of Amazon‑designed and third‑party robotics, packaging, and sortation equipment.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, site maintenance, and operations teams to ensure readiness and business alignment.
- Develop detailed knowledge of robotic systems and guide on‑site and remote commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
- Manage technical ambiguity and integration of work cells within fulfillment centers.
- Lead day‑to‑day project scheduling, budget management, and continuous‑improvement activities.
- Generate and implement improvement ideas for work scopes and project processes.
- Lead small engineering teams (1‑5 engineers) and coordinate with third‑party installers, contracted engineers, construction crews, and IT/network teams.
- Travel to live warehouses and new‑construction sites across North America, often exceeding 75% travel.
- Maintain strong communication with internal and external partners, identifying and solving problems in real time during deployments.

- Experience analyzing data to draw insights for decision‑making.
- At least 1 year of experience reading technical drawings or CAD models (mechanical and electrical).
- At least 1 year working on mechanical, electrical, IT‑networked, or software systems.
- Ability to resolve on‑site clash issues using 3D clash‑detection reports.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot robotics systems, including quality hand‑off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, and performance monitoring.
- Experience creating and interpreting technical documentation and process instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to work primarily in construction or warehouse settings and travel extensively across the U.S. (and potentially internationally).
Preferred Qualifications
- 1‑3 years of field engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse experience.
- Experience with hardware integration of complex mechanical‑electrical or networked industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with specific robotic equipment (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) and Allen‑Bradley PLCs.
- Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP).
- Ability to take independent initiative when presented with a business need.
- OSHA, ANSI, or other automation safety certifications.
- Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies (certifications a plus).
