Robotics Software Engineer
At Hive, we’re building the defining physical AI platform of the next decade. Industrial labor is a critical bottleneck in the global economy, and our machine‑agnostic intelligence platform enables any machine on any site to perceive, decide, and act autonomously. The platform is already live across multiple sites and customers in Europe—spanning logistics, warehousing, industrial manufacturing, and large‑scale chemical production—with a U.S. expansion underway. Our vision is one operator managing hundreds of machines simultaneously, reducing productive machine‑hour cost by 80× and unlocking a new productivity revolution in physical work.
The Role
The Robotics Software Engineer connects each vehicle‑specific control interface to the Hive robotics platform, ensuring the complete robotics software stack operates reliably on the physical machine. The focus is on system integration rather than developing new perception or planning algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Develop machine drivers, software adapters, and hardware abstraction interfaces.
- Connect vehicle state, commands, sensors, diagnostics, and telemetry to the Hive platform.
- Integrate vehicle‑specific functionality with the autonomy and control stack.
- Configure and calibrate the software platform for each machine.
- Integrate sensors, coordinate frames, timing, networking, and data interfaces.
- Debug issues spanning robotics software, networking, embedded controls, and physical hardware.
- Develop automated integration, regression, simulation, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop tests.
- Build tools for diagnostics, telemetry analysis, logging, and commissioning.
- Validate end‑to‑end system behavior on real machines.
- Support field bring‑up, testing, and customer acceptance.
- Develop reusable software integration patterns for future vehicle platforms.
- Work with core platform teams to improve interfaces and eliminate vehicle‑specific forks.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience developing or integrating software for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex physical systems.
- Strong C++ and Python development skills.
- Strong Linux development and debugging experience.
- Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS 2, DDS, or equivalent systems.
- Experience developing drivers and interfaces for sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers.
- Understanding of networking, time synchronization, coordinate frames, calibration, and telemetry.
- Experience testing software on real robotic systems.
- Ability to diagnose problems across hardware and software boundaries.
- Experience with simulation, automated testing, or hardware‑in‑the‑loop systems.
- Willingness to work hands‑on with machines and travel regularly.
Why Join Hive?
Join Hive at a pivotal stage as we expand into the U.S. and build a new category in Physical AI. You’ll work with cutting‑edge autonomy technology and a highly experienced team to bring autonomous industrial machines from development into real‑world commercial operations. As we establish and scale our U.S. operations, you’ll have the opportunity to take on significant responsibility from day one, help shape how we operate in the U.S., and build the playbooks for deploying and operating autonomous machines at scale.
