Roadway Engineer Intern (E.I.)

About the role

We are seeking a Roadway Engineer Intern (E.I.) with 0 to 4 years of professional experience to join our Transportation Division in our Gainesville, FL office. In this position, you will assist in the development of transportation design projects for clients such as state, county, and municipal transportation agencies. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from a number of delivery methods including conventional Bid-Build and Design-Build projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction and maintenance of traffic details
• Assist in the creation of engineering documents including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports
• Generate construction plans using Microstation/GEOPAK and 3D Corridor Modeling
• Perform construction quantity estimates
• Cross-train in other transportation disciplines
• Develop plans, calculations, and specifications amongst multi-discipline engineering teams

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college
• Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam - EI required
• Experience with Microstation/GEOPAK
• Experience with GEOPAK Corridor Modeling or Open Roads required
• Familiarity with FDOT plans preparation criteria and design standards a plus
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and on large multi-discipline engineering teams
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office setting. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Use of a telephone headset will allow for virtual communication with team members through Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit for prolonged periods, use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak and hear.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
