Roadway and Highway Maintenance

About the role

Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is seeking full‑time Skilled Crew Highway Maintenance Technicians to perform advanced maintenance operations in the Houston, TX area on day, mid, and night shifts. The role involves a variety of highway maintenance tasks related to signs, guardrail, drainage, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance activities including work on signs, guardrail, and drainage systems.
• Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and Jorgensen company policies and procedures.
• Operate hand and power tools safely.
• Respond to weather events such as snow, ice, and floods as required.

Required Experience

• Exposure to using shovels, weed trimming machinery, brooms, and various small hand tools.

Preferred Experience

• Roadway maintenance experience.
• CDL license (a plus).
• Experience operating wheel loader, skidsteer, forklift, asphalt roller, etc.
• Familiarity with air compressor operations.
• Construction or roadway maintenance experience.
• Guardrail and sign installation experience.
• Concrete forming and repair experience.
• MOT (Traffic control certifications/courses).
• Bilingual English/Spanish (read/write) preferred but not required.
• Clean driving record (essential).
• Ability to pass criminal background check.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Maintain company standards for background checks (criminal record, driving record, controlled substance/drug testing).
• Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
• Ability to carry out simple arithmetic functions.
• Maintain proper safety equipment required for each job.
• Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology.
• Ability to use smartphone and applications.
• Ability to adjust to changing work schedule.
• Ability to work safely under varying environmental and weather conditions.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate hand/power tools.
