Road Maintenance Worker II

About the Role

The Road Maintenance Worker II performs skilled and manual labor as part of a crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of county roads, bridges, right-of-way, street signs, and other assigned structures. This role involves operating a wide variety of light and heavy construction equipment, including dump trucks, water trucks, pickup trucks, mowers, backhoes, bulldozers, chippers, excavators, boom axes, rollers, and graders.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control light and heavy construction equipment requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments.
• Carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form for semi-routine standardized tasks.
• Perform physical labor to meet the demands of the job, including exposure to adverse environmental conditions, noise extremes, machinery vibrations, or traffic hazards.
• Perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, odors, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
• Communicate effectively in oral form.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six (6) months of experience operating light and heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s).

Qualifications

• Knowledge of light and heavy equipment and its operation.
• Ability to exert physical effort and meet the physical demands of the role.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment drug testing, physical fitness testing, and a criminal background check. A positive drug test, falsification of screening results, or failure to submit to testing may disqualify you from employment for one year. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify you, but withholding or falsifying information about convictions will result in disqualification.
