RNA-LNP Process Development Lab Manager - Group Leader

About the Role
We are seeking an RNA-LNP Lab Manager / Group Leader to support an LNP and RNA Process Development and Technology Transfer team. The successful candidate will supervise laboratory operations, focusing on process development and tech transfer of LNP drug products, mRNA drug substances, and gRNA drug substances. This role includes overseeing GLP sample management for process development studies across multiple programs.
Responsibilities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to lab operations.
- Build and maintain process development-specific raw material, consumable, and sample management inventory systems.
- Submit analytical samples with partner analytical organizations and track results return.
- Order supplies and equipment as needed; coordinate, receive, and inventory deliveries.
- Maintain detailed inventory records in an electronic lab notebook (ELN).
- Coordinate and ensure routine maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment used in process development.
- Build and maintain equipment maintenance programs for Agilent HPLC, AKTA Avant preparative liquid handling, and capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) systems.
- Work closely with collaborators in Process Development, Tech Transfer, Facilities, Laboratory Operations, IT, and Safety teams.
- Author lab maintenance protocols, SOPs, provide updates to the weekly lab operations meeting, and track and analyze lab efficiency metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including analytical development and manufacturing.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of process development scientists.
- Serve as a proactive and effective point of contact for client and internal teams.
- Participate in new hire interviews and onboarding processes.
- Disseminate administrative communications and promote company vision.
- Ensure adherence to highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations.
- Perform administrative tasks to support team member growth and development.
- Balance technical work with team leadership responsibilities.
- Foster morale, collaboration, and teamwork within the group.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or biomedical/chemical engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, CRO, or biotech experience.
- M.S. degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or biomedical/chemical engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, CRO, or biotech experience.
- PhD with 2+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, CRO, or biotech experience.
- Prior laboratory supervisory or team lead experience.
- Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to understand and communicate scientific information.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of equipment commonly used in the process development of nucleic acids (experience with AKTA Avant chromatography systems and Agilent HPLC systems is strongly preferred).
- Strong commitment to laboratory safety protocols.
- Attention to detail, analysis of data, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel and adapt to changing priorities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify and solve problems proactively.
- Strong work ethic and excitement for leading an integrated operations team.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building laboratory inventory management systems is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of nucleic acid (mRNA, gRNA), LNP, and/or biologics process development.
- Knowledge of analytical methods used for nucleic acid and/or biologics process development, including HPLC, CGE, or ELISA experience.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with overtime as needed.
Pay
$100,000 to $115,000 per year based on education and related experience.
