About the role

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the residents we serve, the Unit Manager Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the overall nursing care and service on his/her shift, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, and documentation. The Unit Manager Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of staff and safeguards the health, safety, and welfare of all residents under their care by following applicable laws, regulations, and established nursing policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, and freedom of choice.
  • Supervises CNAs and all subordinate staff, including checking their work to ensure assignments are completed.
  • Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on the assigned shift.
  • Gives and receives shift reports.
  • Rounds the unit multiple times during the shift to ensure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment.
  • Keeps physicians and families aware of changes in resident’s condition.
  • Assists in developing comprehensive care plans.
  • Completes medical records documenting care provided and other information in accordance with nursing policies while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Ensures established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained when providing care.
  • Follows established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to appropriate persons.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect, and promotes a caring environment.
  • Answers and responds to call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Assists with new admissions, re-admissions, and transfers of residents to different rooms within the facility.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for CNAs, Certified Nurse Aides, and other assigned personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current State License as a RN or LPN.
  • CPR Certified.

Preferred Experience

  • One year of experience as a nurse in a long-term care setting.
