Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the operative setting for both adult and pediatric populations.
- Focus on neuro and spine procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care before, during, and after surgical and other invasive interventions.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team, maintain a sterile environment, and adhere to established clinical standards and protocols to optimize patient outcomes.
- Deliver professional nursing care to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
- Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies.
- Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording and communicating patient conditions and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.
- Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure and patient positioning.
- Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.
Schedule
Orientation is 6 months working Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 3:30pm. After orientation, an available shift will be 9am–7:30pm. The required call rotation is: 2 call shifts (weeknight or weekend) per month and 1–2 holidays per year.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN)
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments
- *If performing moderate/procedural sedation, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire
Qualifications
- One year RN experience OR completion of Cleveland Clinic perioperative residency program
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing greater than 75 pounds periodically.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $35.50 to $55.60 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
