About the role

Responsibilities
- Verifies daily staffing and redistributes as necessary;
- Collaborates with all charge nurses daily to exchange information regarding resident care, resident condition, and all matters affecting resident well-being (admissions, discharges, transfers, out-of-building); makes recommendations regarding nursing process, and communicates concerns to supervisors of other departments;
- Makes rounds, morning and night, as time allows, to assess residents' condition, giving special attention to critically ill residents;
- Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each resident;
- Performs medication passes and/or direct resident care as needed;
- Participates in resident care committee meetings;
- Reinforces the training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive reinforcement;
- Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (change of resident condition or pronouncement of death);
- Affirms the safety and sanitation of the building for residents, employees, and visitors;
- Affirms the security of the building during evening and night hours by checking doors and alarms according to nursing facility protocols;
- Reviews incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness;
- Monitors meal service on the units and in the dining areas to identify issues requiring intervention and to assure resident meal satisfaction and nutritional adequacy;
- Affirms the development and implementation of nursing facility Quality Improvement Program;
- Affirms the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
- Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
- The RN Nursing Supervisor must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and there must be current registration with the professional board of nurse examiners of the State;
- Experience in the nursing field;
- Supervisory experience in long-term care is required.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and practices;
- Knowledge of specialized procedures applied and equipment used in the area to which assigned;
- Knowledge of dietetic, sanitation, and personal hygiene;
- Knowledge of medications, their proper dosage, and expected results;
- Skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment;
- Ability to coordinate and supervise the nursing functions in an effective manner;
- Empathetic attitude toward residents and ability to gain their confidence to work with them effectively;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature;
- Ability to recognize and identify symptoms and make quick decisions in emergencies;
- Ability to train subordinates in work procedures and organize and direct training carried out by members of the staff;
- Ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public;
- Annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
