Overview
The RN Student Nurse Apprentice is an adjunct to the patient care team who works under the Registered Nurse who remains physically present and readily accessible to designate, prescribe a course of action or give procedural guidance, direction, and periodic evaluation. Shift’s Available: Variable Employment Type: PRN or Per Diem Hours: 12-hour Location: Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, AL

Responsibilities
- Direct supervision by the Registered Nurse is required for all invasive procedures.
- Permitted procedures must not exceed those defined as permitted by the Alabama Board of Nursing as “basic” competencies.
- Skills must first be verified by the program of nursing before the skill can be verified by the Registered Nurse in the clinical setting.
- The Registered Nurse may suspend or withdraw delegation to the RN Student Nurse Apprentice at any time.
- The RN Student Nurse Apprentice is responsible for documentation of all skills performed, but the Registered Nurse is responsible to verify and sign documentation requiring the signature of a Registered Nurse.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an Alabama Board of Nursing approved nursing education program, required
- Required Current Alabama Board of Nursing Student Nurse Apprentice permit
- Note: The permit valid for the duration of the student’s enrollment in an Alabama approved nurse apprentice program or until graduation from the nursing program. It is automatically invalid if the student withdraws from the apprentice program, nursing school or does not make satisfactory progress in the nursing program.
