About the Role
A Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering care within the scope of their training and expertise, collaborating with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. This is done in conjunction with the objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Arkansas.
A Labor and Delivery Nurse is a Registered Nurse who provides nursing care to women and their infants before, during, and after birth. The Labor and Delivery Nurse assists the physician with all aspects of pregnancy and birth, assists surgeons during cesarean sections, and cares for women who experience complications with their pregnancies or birth processes. The nursing roles during this phase focus on assessing the patient and developing a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological, educational/health literacy, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of the patient and family.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and administer nursing care within scope of training and expertise
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve desired patient outcomes
- Provide nursing care to women and infants before, during, and after birth
- Assist physicians with all aspects of pregnancy and birth
- Assist surgeons during cesarean sections
- Care for women experiencing complications with pregnancy or birth
- Assess patients and develop individualized care plans addressing physical, psychological, educational, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families
Requirements
- New RN graduate from an accredited nursing program or Registered Nurse in good standing
- Licensed to practice in the state of Arkansas
- BSN preferred
- Applies basic knowledge and skills to meet standard of care
- Ability to practice as a full partner of an interdisciplinary team
- Healthcare CPR certification required
- Some areas may require ACLS, PALS, and/or NALS (training provided)
- Specialty units require and will provide specific specialty education
