Summary

Provides direct patient care in an area designated as a specialty unit in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with clerical and non-technical duties necessary to department operations, such as documenting procedures into department/hospital information systems, as per departmental policy, recording billing, editing and statistical information in radiology information system, (post-processing and archiving of images to PACS), maintaining and cleaning patient care equipment per infection control standards and evaluating inventory levels, to ensure par level of stock, suitable for the needs of division.
  • Demonstrate the ability to cover "call" by performing all functions required after hours.
  • Prepares patients for procedures by reviewing medical history, draping and positioning the patient, preparing procedural/testing sites and administering contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Assists physician with performing diagnostic and vascular interventional procedures (utilizing surgical sterile technique). Reviews results and takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies including sterile trays. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Radiology (Required)
  • BLS Certifications:
    • American Heart Association (AHA) E-Card
    • AHA RQI E-Card
    • AHA Non-Ecard
    • Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE)
    • Red Cross (RC)
  • Registered Nurse License:
    • Compact RN Multistate
    • State of Florida (FL)

Additional Requirements

  • Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communications skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Required Work Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience required.
  • Department Specific Credentials:
    • ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate (for RNs administering chemotherapy)
    • APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider card (within 12 months of hire for pediatric oncology)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for specific areas (ICU, ED, PACU, etc.)
    • PALS for pediatric areas (within 30 days of hire for non-pediatric background)
    • NRP certification for NICU (within 30 days of hire for non-NICU background)
    • Fetal Monitoring Certification for L&D RNs
    • RN Fellowship Program requires one year of independent practice

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The role involves various physical activities, including bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and standing, often with patients or equipment. It also requires working with biohazardous materials, chemicals, and potential exposure to communicable diseases. The environment may include wet or slippery surfaces, needles, and other hazards.
