Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments upon resident admission and facilitate necessary discharge planning within residential programs.
- Track and communicate essential medical information effectively, both verbally and through written documentation.
- Absorb and schedule medical appointments for residents.
- Oversee medication-related responsibilities, including reviewing medication administration, obtaining informed consent, providing medication education to residents, families, and staff, and reviewing the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- Collaborate with the entire residential team to create and maintain a therapeutic environment for clients.
- Build therapeutic rapport with clients and offer basic counseling support.
- Assist clients in practicing daily living skills and provide crisis intervention, including de-escalation techniques and safety holds.
- Engage in treatment planning for clients by observing behaviors, implementing therapeutic interventions, and providing feedback on client progress.
- Offer leadership and consultation to the residential team by participating in the administrator on-call rotation, which may involve varying hours of availability.
- Provide guidance to other administrators on-call regarding medical or medication-related issues as necessary.
- Demonstrate psychological insight and self-awareness in understanding client behaviors and interventions, and actively seek supervision and consultation regarding the challenges and demands of the residential RN role.
Qualifications
- Requires knowledge of nursing practices, which can be gained only through an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure as an RN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing is required.
- Requires knowledge of nursing practices.
- Must have critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability.
- Able to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations.
- Able to do multiple tasks and communicate in a professional manner in both verbal and written format.
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office including Outlook and Word.
- Be oriented and educated in gender, cultural differences and in age appropriate care.
- Able to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks.
- Able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Able to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations.
- Make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances.
