Responsibilities
- Assist LPN’s and health aides in the daily clinic operation of their assigned school.
- Assess the nursing needs, plan of nursing action, implement the plan, and evaluate the plan.
- Perform various duties such as serving as a health advocate, counseling students, promoting health maintenance, and working with teachers and administrators.
- Teach growth and development to fifth and sixth grade students, administer student medications, assist with emergency care, reconcile weekly nursing services reports, compile and ensure accuracy of quarterly reports, and conduct onsite visits for head injury/trauma neurology assessments.
- Delegating nursing tasks or procedures to unlicensed persons and licensed practical nurses under the direction of a registered professional nurse.
- Supervise nursing tasks or procedures delegated to designated unlicensed persons and licensed practical nurses in the school setting.
- Delegate medication administration to unlicensed persons only under certain conditions.
- Provide substitute clinic coverage in the absence of the LPN or health aide.
- Notify the coordinator of nursing services whenever an ambulance is called.
- Report absences to the coordinator of nursing services.
Requirements
This position requires a licensed professional nurse preferably with a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing, a minimum of two years of clinical experience including supervisory role, and CPR/AED certification.

- Maintain confidentiality and use good judgment in handling and dispersing information.
- Exercise assessment and critical thinking skills when delivering nursing services in the school setting.
Skills
The individual must be able to communicate effectively and work independently within established guidelines in a timely manner.
