RN - Registered Nurse - Perioperative - Per diem

Job Duties

• Receives status report on patient from appropriate personnel.
• Receives and identifies patient.
• Performs initial nursing assessment and scoring of patient.
• Performs ongoing assessment and reports and records manifestation of patient's condition.
• Maintains monitoring devices and reports changes.
• Reviews medical record for postoperative orders and institutes appropriate treatments.
• Administers medications according to physician orders.
• Performs discharge scoring and prepares patient for discharge in accordance with discharge criteria.
• Provides patient education to patient and family members and documents on nursing record.
• Aids in nourishment of patient.
• Involves ancillary support services as indicated.
• Contacts patient and significant other postoperatively to evaluate his and her progress and provide follow-up referral as necessary.
• Affords general assistance in evaluating the quality of patient care and participates in quality improvement activities.
• Communicates with family as needed to allay patient and family concerns.
• Continually demonstrates a commitment to professional excellence through participating in meetings, committee memberships and the pursuit of continuing education.
• Orders supplies as needed.
• Maintain compliance with safety and preventative maintenance activities for all medical and technical advanced equipment to minimize failures and unsafe conditions.
• Affords assistance with orientation, in-service programs and the supervising of students.
