About the role

The Urology RN performs a wide variety of patient care activities under the direct supervision of the Urology Practice Manager, the Urology Nurse Supervisor, and the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff. These include prioritizing and assisting with patient triage processing and preparation, assisting with urology examinations, administering medications, collecting and preparing laboratory tests, providing patient education, assisting with rooming and completing vital intake for patients, and assisting with in-basket messages.

This position also assists in pre-procedure data collection, assists the physician and team during procedures, and assists in the post-procedure recovery area. The RN will assist in phone symptom triage, appointment scheduling, referral assessment, care coordination, pre/post hospital and procedural follow-up with Urology patients, as part of the growing patient-centered Care Navigation Hub. Additionally, the RN will provide sick-call, vacation, and messaging coverage for the urology clinic team.

The RN must consistently deliver an excellent experience for patients, providers, and team members in both virtual and in-clinic environments. Strong clinical judgment and communication skills are required for effective collaboration and care coordination across healthcare teams, ensuring optimal care for patients and families in a busy outpatient urology setting.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
• RN License issued by the State of California
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date
• Minimum of three (3) years of active RN experience
• At least one (1) year of RN telephone triage experience
• Experience providing care to urology patients, with demonstrated knowledge of common urological conditions, treatments, procedures, and post-operative care
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, consistently demonstrating empathy and kindness with staff and patients
• Ability to perform triage and manage critical or urgent situations with speed, accuracy, and tact
• Proven independent thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritization skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Outpatient urology experience
• Surgical and/or ambulatory care experience
• Previous telephone triage experience
• Recent oncology experience
• Acute care experience (ICU or med/surg)
• AIDET or other customer service training experience
• Procedural experience

Pay

The annual full pay range for this position is $138,330 - $193,892, with an hourly equivalent range of $66.25 - $92.86. The hiring pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The annual full pay range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
