RN Registered Nurse IMCU FT Nights

Department: SSH IMCU Pratt 6 South – Full-time, 36 budgeted hours per week, night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays.

About the Role

Manages individualized, outcome-oriented nursing care through the nursing process, coordinating assessment, planning, care delivery, and evaluation in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows SSH policies and procedures for medication administration, transcription, and documentation, including:
    • Completing medication reconciliation per SSH policy.
    • Documenting narcotic withdrawal, administration, verifying counts, wasting per policy, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list and plan of care for each patient, including:
    • Initiating admission assessment within 8 hours of admission.
    • Identifying and documenting patient/family/significant other teaching needs upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
    • Continuing assessment/reassessment and identifying care needs within established nursing practice.
    • Documenting all patient care following departmental and hospital policies, unit-based standards, disease processes (e.g., CHF, PNA vaccines), and nurse-sensitive indicators (e.g., falls, skin, CAUTI).
  • Assesses, reassesses, and documents patient’s level of comfort using appropriate pain scales and patient response to pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions per SSH policy.
  • Advocates for patients and families by:
    • Seeking help to represent them when they are unable to represent themselves.
    • Raising ethical questions and concerns with the clinical team.
    • Utilizing available resources to help formulate and understand ethical decisions.
  • Actively communicates the plan of the day via whiteboard, updating every shift.
  • Facilitates discharge/transfer by the goal of 12:00 PM, communicating barriers using the chain of command.
  • Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment, including:
    • Verifying patient identification with two identifiers prior to any invasive procedure, care, medication administration, or specimen labeling, and documenting confirmation of correct patient, procedure, site, equipment, and consent.
    • Complying with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and adhering to universal precautions, including proper use of personal protective equipment and disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Maintaining awareness of MSDS sheets and access procedures.
    • Ensuring the environment meets regulatory requirements at all times.
    • Understanding and demonstrating roles and responsibilities during hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development by:
    • Incorporating evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement initiatives into ongoing nursing practice.
    • Obtaining at least 5 contact hours per year in area of practice.
    • Practicing within the legal boundaries of the MA Nurse Practice Act.
    • Directing other licensed and non-licensed personnel as assigned.
    • Accepting and responding appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
    • Demonstrating professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines to promote a positive and encouraging workplace.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking by analyzing causes of problems, identifying and evaluating alternative solutions, selecting appropriate solutions, and communicating effectively using the chain of command.
  • Stays informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.
  • Utilizes technological solutions in work processes and practices, including:
    • Accessing Lotus Notes for email, learning management, and other resources applicable to the RN role.
    • Utilizing software applications required by department and unit standards.
    • Understanding how to operate during downtime.
  • Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical standards relevant to the position, including:
    • Complying with applicable policies and procedures.
    • Safeguarding the privacy and security of patient information.
    • Adhering to SSH’s privacy and security programs.
    • Bringing potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director, or VP.
    • Complying with mandatory education requirements of compliance, privacy, and security programs.
  • Delivers patient and family-centered care by:
    • Conveying respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family.
    • Recognizing the patient and family as important members of the healthcare team according to patient preferences.
    • Collaborating with the patient and family in planning, implementing, and evaluating care according to patient preferences.
    • Welcoming the presence and participation of family members at all times, regardless of rounds, shift changes, or other unit events.
  • Possesses age and cultural knowledge and awareness, considering individual needs in interactions and delivering care/services with sensitivity to diverse populations as needed.
  • Effectively utilizes resources such as interpreter services and online sources to provide care/services.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (preferred).
  • Previous Acute Care RN experience preferred.
  • Current RN – Registered Nurse licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association).
  • Depending on department, additional certifications may be required, including:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
    • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
    • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR).

Pay

Pay Range: $38.20 - $77.39 per hour.
