Key Responsibilities
- Delivers expert, evidence-based nursing care to patients and families.
- Implements nursing process: Assessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation.
- Affirms patient and family needs and develops clinically accurate diagnoses.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members for patient-centered care.
- Plans and implements care with measurable outcomes.
- Evaluates patient responses to interventions.
- Documents care according to Institute and regulatory agency requirements.
- Administers medications and other treatments, including chemotherapy and biotherapy.
- Evaluates educational and psychological needs and educates patients and families.
- Reviews patient clinical status and laboratory values before treatment.
- Evaluates and determines need for referrals to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Identifies appropriate community resources for continuity of care and makes referrals.
- Manages patient care across the continuum, including referrals to home care and hospice.
- Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
- Maintains BLS certification.
- Provides telephone triage according to policies and documents interactions.
- Performs technical skills such as intravenous therapy and chemotherapy administration.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing as validated by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
- Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of 1-year recent experience as an RN in ambulatory or oncology settings.
- Licenses / Registrations: RN - Registered Nurse, BLS - Basic Life Support, ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, ability to function in a busy work setting with complex patients, IV skills, good hearing and vision, excellent listening and speaking skills, ability to balance multiple tasks, and normal stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
