About the Role

The professional nurse uses the nursing process to provide patient- and family-centered care, valuing the uniqueness of each individual and addressing the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of the diverse patients served by Jefferson Health Ambulatory Clinics. As an integral member of the ambulatory care clinical team, the nurse collaborates effectively with providers and support staff to deliver clinical nursing interventions. The role involves communicating respectfully with patients to address their individualized needs in alignment with their cultural beliefs and values.

Responsibilities

• Convey respect and collaborate with patients and designated care partners in care and care planning.
• Demonstrate cultural awareness and connect effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
• Use effective communication techniques to engage patients in their health and health care.
• Delegate tasks appropriately and respectfully to other team members.
• Exhibit professionalism, including honesty, confidentiality, integrity, and ethical behavior as defined by the ANA Code of Conduct for Nurses.
• Precept nursing students as needed.
• Assess ailments and injuries to triage patients appropriately using nursing and medical terminology.
• Educate patients and their designated care partners on conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery steps, addressing health literacy barriers.
• Apply knowledge of pharmacology in primary care, including medication administration and immunizations for preventive care.
• Utilize assessment tools and techniques to diagnose or make clinical judgments, triaging patients effectively.
• Document medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Complete EMR training, remain proficient in its use, and stay current with updates and tasking functions.
• Participate in or support quality, evidence-based practice and research initiatives, including nursing governance.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required).
• BSN or completion of BSN within 3 years of hire (preferred).
• Experience as a nurse in an ambulatory setting (preferred).
• Current nursing license in the state of practice (Pennsylvania).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
