About the role
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 11-bed unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, caring for critically ill children from 0-18 years old. The PICU is staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Pediatric Intensivists who collaborate with a supportive multidisciplinary care team.
Responsibilities
- Identify patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessments of children with various conditions including respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurological dysfunction.
- Plan and deliver safe, age-appropriate care in critical situations, including titration of drips, multiple technical procedures, and use of a variety of equipment for acute care.
- Evaluate the patient's response to care and progress toward expected outcomes.
- Accountable for outcomes of patient care during the assigned shift and strive for clinical and service excellence.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Alabama licensure.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or critical care.
- BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
- PALS required within 6 months of hire.
