RN PRN 20P - Pediatric ICU - Shift Varies

About the role

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 11-bed unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, caring for critically ill children from 0-18 years old. The PICU is staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Pediatric Intensivists who collaborate with a supportive multidisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

• Identify patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessments of children with various conditions including respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurological dysfunction.
• Plan and deliver safe, age-appropriate care in critical situations, including titration of drips, multiple technical procedures, and use of a variety of equipment for acute care.
• Evaluate the patient's response to care and progress toward expected outcomes.
• Accountable for outcomes of patient care during the assigned shift and strive for clinical and service excellence.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Alabama licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or critical care.
• BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
• PALS required within 6 months of hire.
