About the role
The PICU RN manages patients with multi-system failure and a variety of life-threatening illnesses within the Pediatric Critical Care Department. The ICU/CCU nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients and reports to the Clinical Manager of the client facility's designee.
Responsibilities
- Assesses and documents patient care needs
- Administers medications and treatments as prescribed
- Maintains communication with interdisciplinary team members
- Monitors patient condition and reports changes to physician
- Ensures compliance with infection control protocols
- Collaborates with families to educate about patient care and discharge planning
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
- Current, legal license in good standing in state of practice
- One year recent experience in ICU, CCU, PICU, NICU, or emergency medicine
- Prefers ACLS, PALS, NRP certification
- Meets CEU requirements for the state of practice
- Must be able to work with frequent interruptions
- One to three years complex job-related experience
- Requires BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of pediatric critical care
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience with pediatric patients preferred
Skills
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- National Registry Paramedic (NRP)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
