RN PER DIEM I

We have immediate RN Per Diem hiring across our Progressive Care Units (PCU) departments. Day and night shifts available.

About the Role

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients consistent with clinical specialty, independent of patient location. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position does not qualify for out-of-area float pay.

Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Shift Differentials

• 17% for Weekday Nights
• 26% for Weekend Nights
• 15% for Weekend Days

Pay

RN Per Diem positions are paid at a flat rate:

• RN Per Diem I: $40.30/hour
• RN Per Diem II: $47.38/hour
• RN Per Diem III: $51.49/hour

Schedule

• RN Per Diem I: Minimum of two shifts per schedule, including one weekend shift and one summer and one winter holiday.
• RN Per Diem II: Minimum of four shifts per schedule, including two weekend shifts and one summer and one winter holiday.
• RN Per Diem III: Minimum of ten shifts per schedule, including two weekend shifts and one summer and one winter holiday.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
• Work within hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
• Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent is obtained.
• Participate in orientation; assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel upon successful completion of preceptor training.
• Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
• Ensure patient medical records contain necessary information.
• Answer telephones and triage calls per departmental policy.
• Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
• Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve it through questioning current policies and processes.
• Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
• Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may "not seem right."

Requirements

• Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program.
• 1 year of directly related experience.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by the State of New Mexico.
• CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers (must obtain within 30 calendar days of position start date).
• Complete and maintain unit/clinic-based required certifications and competencies as listed in the department expectations and/or unit/clinic education matrix.
• Obtain UNMH IV Verification within 6 months of position start date.
• Tuberculosis testing completed upon hire and as required thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo.
• Nationally certified in area of specialty.

Working Conditions

• Environmental Conditions: Significant exposure to chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment.
• Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work.
