Position Summary
Current Opening: One Full-Time days.
Essential Functions
- Initiates an accurate admission and ongoing assessments of patient population
- Formulates a comprehensive nursing plan using established policies and protocols
- Performs therapeutic nursing interventions for patient population according to unit policies and procedures
- Provides patient and family education specific to the patient population
- Initiates discharge planning according to the nursing care plan and in collaboration with interdisciplinary departments
- Performs appropriate documentation compliant with hospital and departmental policies
- Practices according to safety and infection control policies
- Initiates and follows established standards in emergency situation(s)
- Maintains annual competencies related to safety and emergency situations
- Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient, family and staff
- Reports appropriately and in a positive effective manner on patient status to members of the health care team
- Communicates with patients, family and friends in a professional manner exhibiting patience and tact, which decreases anxiety and conveys an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity and caring
- Uses appropriate hand off communications to other team members practicing proper telephone etiquette
- Initiates problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships
- Participates in collegial interaction with other healthcare professionals
- Attends required continuing education in compliance with State Nursing Board, hospital and departmental requirements
Knowledge, Education and Experience Required
- Proof of high school or equivalent or higher education
- Registered Nurse with current, active Wyoming license, required.
- BSN preferred
- If less than one-year experience as a Registered Nurse, must obtain a BSN degree within 4 years of hire. Certification Preferred
Qualifications Required Prior to Independence from Preceptor
- Successful completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers
- Computer-Assisted Self-Directed New Employee Orientation
- Successful completion of Point of Care Testing Equipment Orientation
- Successful completion of Cerner Information System Orientation
Qualifications Required Prior to Completion of Orientation
- Successful demonstration of clinical equipment appropriates to department
- Successful completion of orientation skills checklist
- Attendance at New Employee Orientation classroom program (if a new employee)
Skills and Abilities Required
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to understand the basic metric system.
- Operation of typical office equipment such as computers, printers, copier, fax (including e-fax)
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Read, write, comprehend, and follow instructions.
- Read, write and speak in English.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Demonstrates ability to precept new employees
- Demonstrates the ability to assume a leadership role
- Demonstrates priority setting and time management abilities
- Competently performs clinical skills required of a Registered Nurse
- Demonstrates the ability to work with patient needs according to patient population
Physical Demands/Requirements
- Regularly lift or move objects weighing 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, walking, standing, and working with equipment.
