About the Role

Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned clinical area. Coordinate operations including patient scheduling, maintaining records, and managing admissions. Counsel patients and family members on treatment and conditions, and act as a liaison between case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and other services. Coordinate patient services and care in accordance with the medical center's purpose. This role may require on-call duties at the department's discretion.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatments and interventions.
• Educate patients and family members on the nature and status of the patient's condition, diet, side effects of medication/treatments, and compliance with medication schedules.
• Ensure patient safety.
• Coordinate referrals to other services within and outside the immediate area or unit.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Function as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
• Report patient issues or concerns to a supervisor as appropriate.
• Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area.
• Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.

Requirements

• Valid RN license.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold.

• Occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions, including risk of radiation exposure, bloodborne pathogens, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals, requiring attention to safety considerations.
