Per-diem position in a Manhattan IRA residence supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

About the role

The Registered Nurse evaluates and monitors health and safety needs to promote wellness, ensuring all nursing care complies with federal, state, and agency regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate medical care for assigned individuals, monitor and assess health needs, and arrange follow-up care.
  • Assess consumer health status through direct observation for signs of discomfort, distress, or illness.
  • Evaluate physical status changes for exacerbation of existing conditions, onset of disease, or responses to care and treatment; document and follow up on all findings.
  • Communicate with physicians, families, interdisciplinary team members, and clinicians involved in providing services.
  • Follow up on consumer hospitalizations, emergency room visits, reports of injury, trauma, accidents, illness, distress, and other health issues.
  • Accompany individuals on medical appointments to advocate and discuss health issues; communicate findings to team members.
  • Respond to urgent/emergent situations, including after-hours phone calls regarding assigned caseload.
  • Attend meetings with management, staff, families, and clinicians to discuss health-related issues.
  • Develop, update, and revise individual-specific nursing plans and protocols to reflect changes in consumer status.
  • Supervise AMAP administration of prescribed medication and routine treatments in compliance with regulations and agency policy.
  • Administer STAT medication and treatments as prescribed; participate in in-services and train AMAPs as needed.
  • Complete AMAP certification, recertification, and decertification processes as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in New York State.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work as part of a team.
  • Valid NY State or Tri-State Driver’s License for more than one year with a good driving record (preferred).

Pay

$48–$50 per hour

Schedule

14 hours per week; flexible schedule.
