About the role
The Observation Unit is an extension of the Emergency Room, serving patients meeting specific inclusion/exclusion criteria. Patients are continuously monitored by a licensed provider available 24/7, with clinically appropriate services provided within 24-48 hours.
Responsibilities
- Supports and incorporates Frederick Health mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy into job performance.
- Provides patient care using the nursing process, performs leadership and teaching duties, and supports effective patient care.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
- Adheres to State and Federal licensing, regulatory bodies, and hospital policies.
- Affirms biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning assessments.
- Develops and implements individualized patient care plans based on identified needs and available resources.
- Prioritizes patient care and seeks assistance as needed.
- Evaluates nursing care and modifies interventions as necessary.
- Communicates patient status and plan of care updates to patients and healthcare team.
- Assesses patient/family learning needs and establishes goals using standardized or individualized teaching plans.
- Evaluates teaching effectiveness and follows up with patients/families as needed.
- Supports and mentors less experienced staff in patient/family teaching.
- Ensures adherence to departmental and hospital policies.
- Reviews and audits data for accuracy and completeness.
- Contributes to the evaluation/auditing process for CNAs, technicians, and peers.
Requirements
- Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in State of Maryland or compact state.
- Associates degree in Nursing required; Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred or willing to obtain within 5 years of employment.
- Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Required certifications within 1 year of hire: 2C (Oncology/Thoracic), 4B, 4A, 4G, 2G (Telemetry), ACLS, NRP, C-EFM.
- Knowledge and skills in caring for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Ability to handle a physically demanding environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 20 hours per week to be eligible for benefits.

Pay
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Part-time positions may have shift differentials and/or overtime pay, if applicable. The pay range is $36.07 - $55.17 per hour, with the maximum dependent on specialty if applicable.
